Social Activities

Community Building

The building of community at Congregation Kol Ami begins within the walls of the sanctuary and is cultivated beyond those walls among the many social activities and groups available to members.

Bingo Night

The Bingo Night Religious School fundraiser is geared to the younger generation of Kol Ami congregants. Families participate in entertaining games of bingo to win kid-themed prizes, and enjoy kid-friendly dinner fare of pizza. Bingo Night is a guaranteed night of fun for everyone.

Casino Night

Casino Night each winter at the synagogue is one of our congregation’s annual fundraisers. Members arrive to a transformed sanctuary to try their luck at craps, poker, roulette and blackjack to raise money and have fun. Winners go home with wonderful themed prize baskets, and all leave with fabulous memories.

ISH

A funny name for a group that specializes in fun, ISH is Kol Ami’s version of what many synagogues call Young Marrieds. But it is not limited to young, married couples. Rather, the name ISH, derived from the Peter H. Reynolds children’s book of the same name, refers to the fact that participants can be young-ish, married-ish or single-ish, and so on. It is simply a social group for those in their 20s, 30s and 40s who crave adult interaction away from the kids.

ISH coordinates fun gatherings at congregants’ homes, in the synagogue or out in the community. Past activities include a board game night, ice skating, a hoedown and a wine tasting. These events have created lasting friendships among congregants and many fun memories.

Ladies of a Certain Age (LOCA)

This group provides opportunities for women 50ish and older to spend time together and build relationships. Together, these women plan cultural outings, visits to institutions in and around Philadelphia, lots of opportunities to schmooze and, of course, food-centered events such as themed potluck dinners and Shabbat dinners.

Softball Team

Kol Ami is a member of the Delaware Valley Synagogue League. Made up of 22 teams from the surrounding Philadelphia suburbs, the league runs from March through August each year. Kol Ami plays a competitive, fun brand of softball and is never at a loss for a good time. Throughout the season, families of the players can often be found picnicking and playing alongside the field.
